The people who grow it

Hillroot buys from farmer cooperatives, producer companies and self-help group federations — never from a trader. Each group agrees its floor price before the season, and settlement goes to the group's own account. Between them, the groups below are farming families in hill districts, across of India's eight Northeast states.

All cooperatives on this page are illustrative sample groups, prepared for this demonstration build.

The table follows the filter above. Acreage is not shown for Tamenglong because that collective gathers from forest, not from planted land.

Cooperative District and state Main crops Families Women Joined

Families are the member households in each group; the women column is their share of that membership. Sample figures for this demonstration.

Joining Hillroot

How a cooperative joins

Four steps, the same for every group — whether it is twelve women with one pulveriser or six hundred growers with a warehouse.

Register or be nominated

A cooperative, farmer producer company or self-help group federation applies through the Sell With Us form, or is nominated by a district horticulture office. One member speaks for the group and signs for it.

Field visit and grading

We walk the plots and the drying yard, agree a written grading standard for each crop, and record what the group can honestly supply in a season. Nothing is listed before that visit.

Certification support

Where a group lacks organic certification, a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India licence or independent lab reports, we handle the paperwork and recover the cost against later despatches — never upfront.

Storefront live

The group gets its own page with the lead's name on it, the crops go on the shelf, and settlement reaches the group's own account within 48 hours of despatch.

Hillroot is a demonstration build. Onboarding is described here as it is designed to work, and any role for a government programme — the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for the North Eastern Region, for instance — is proposed, not established.
